PROGRAM OVERVIEW
As parents ourselves, we understand that choosing an early childhood program
that you are comfortable with can be a difficult task.
We would like to take a moment to assure you that it is
extremely important to us that you and your child are satisfied
with our services.
It is also very important that your child feels loved and respected while at
our center, and at the same time understands that there
are rules established for his/her safety and for the well-being
of all the children at the Center. In addition, children
are encouraged to be respectful to their peers in each
classroom.
Our International Curriculum was
exclusively designed for our school following some of the
“Creative Curriculum” guidelines. The Creative Curriculum
enhances social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language
development. The learning environment is the structure
of the classroom that sets the context for teaching and
learning.
Knowing how children develop and
learn is the basis of planning our program, selecting materials,
and guiding children’s learning.
Our curriculum is specifically
designed to support the needs of the children at each of
their developmental stages. The curriculum is based on
hands-on experiential learning since younger children learn
best through doing. We give our students an opportunity
to explore and learn through inquisition and natural curiosity.
Meeting the needs of each unique child is our overall goal
while establishing healthy boundaries through a variety
of learning activities and experiences.
Our goal is to expose your children
to the world. While exposing them to a variety of languages,
there are monthly themes incorporated throughout the school
starting with the very young in our infant room, and will
be incrementally designed to challenge each level of learning
all the way through our Kindergarten class. A well-loved
children’s book author will be featured each month. Diversity
is celebrated through international holidays and celebrations.
Our Kindergarten Classroom exceeds the minimum standards
defined by the Department of Education.
An important part of our curriculum
is our enhancement programs. During the week we have guests
that visit our program on a weekly basis. Shelley Toon
Hight, Art Children’s Program Director, at Columbia Center
for the Arts, teaches art every Thursday. www.columbiaarts.org.
Victor Johnson, famous Children musician, brings his music
to our center every Wednesday.
Our Hood River Center has been
architecturally designed to specifically enhance the environment
for children aged 3 months to twelve years. The windows
are at eye level for all age groups to peer outside and
the school environment is scaled to size. We have an infant
area, a toddler area and a separate area of the buildings
scaled to Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten children.
Although the building is beautiful and spacious, each room
has a homey feeling with an intimate setting. We have two
separate playgrounds: one for infants and toddlers and
one for preschool through Kindergarteners. These specifically
designed playgrounds support the physical needs of the
child at his/her developmental level. Each play area allows
for freedom of movement in a safe, specifically designated
area for each age group.
We are delighted to be part of
your child’s life during these amazing years.

Love and
Logic
Our discipline method is based on the “Love and Logic” curriculum. Love and
Logic is a philosophy founded by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D., and is
based on the experience of a combined total of over 75 years working with and
raising kids. It provides simple and practical techniques to help teachers
and parents have less stress and more fun while raising responsible kids. Love
and Logic offers many useful techniques that teachers and parents can begin
experimenting with immediately. Here are some examples:
• Locking–in sadness or empathy before delivering consequences
• Setting limits with enforceable statements
• Sharing control through lots of small choices
• Building relationships with the One Sentence Intervention
• Neutralizing arguing with the Brain Dead technique
• The Anticipatory Consequence
"Love
and Logic is easy to use, raises responsible kids, and
changes lives."
